Every ring in Aranya starts with a stone nobody cut. Its shape decides the setting, the gold-tone follows its edges, and the branches of the band hold it the way roots hold a rock. Fifteen stones, so fifteen rings, and no pattern to repeat.

The stone

Left as the
ground gave it.

Most stones are cut, polished, and often heated before they reach a ring, until they look like every other stone of their kind. These weren't. Each centre stone keeps the surface it came out of the ground with: the ridges, the pits, the uneven colour. So instead of cutting a stone to fit a setting, we built each setting to fit its stone. Some wrap a single mass, some bind two side by side, some gather a cluster, and some spread across the face like a crust. That is why there is one of each, and why none can be made again.
